- Founder of Andhra Yuvajana Samiti and Students Congress.

- Took part in Hyderabad State political struggle; General Secretary of Andhra Mahasabha (1942).
- Member of Standing Committee of State Congress and Hyderabad City Congress (1946).
- Served in Andhra Provincial Congress Committee and its Working Committee for over 30 years.
- Nominated to the Provisional Parliament in 1950; appointed Whip of Congress Parliamentary Party.
- MLA in Hyderabad (1952–56), Minister for Agriculture, Food, Planning and Rehabilitation.
- Led Indian delegation to World Conference of Agriculturists, Rome (1953); Deputy Leader in FAO Conference, Rome (1955).
- MLA in Andhra Pradesh from Vikarabad and Tandur; held portfolios including Planning, Panchayati Raj, Finance, Education, and Industries.
- Minister for Steel, Mines and Metals in Union Cabinet (1967); resigned in 1968.
- Played a major role in the Telangana movement and drafted the Six-Point Formula (1971).
